Olympic Sailing Team Knows the Ropes
Yale
Cordage Chosen as Official Supplier
Biddeford,
ME, May 30, 2000-In an announcement that could alter the competitive
balance at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Summer Games, the Olympic
Sailing Committee of U.S. Sailing has chosen Yale Cordage as its official
line supplier for the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team. This selection stems
not only from the Biddeford, ME-based companys longstanding reputation
for reliability and craftsmanship, but also for its innovative approach
to problem solving.
Weve always centered our R&D efforts around creating
products that will withstand the toughest conditions imaginable,
explains Yale Vice President Dick Hildebrand. And as a result
of our efforts, our lines can handle anything-including international
competition. This kind of innovation has helped the company create
some of the toughest lines on the market. The YaleTail runner tail,
which incorporates many of the heat-resistant properties of Kevlar,
Vectran, and Yales Maxijacket coating, is one of the best ropes
available when it comes to handling friction and has become the line
of choice for world-class sailors. In addition, the companys newly
developed PoBOn, crafted from Zylon PBO fiber, provides the highest
strength-to-weight ratio of any material including steel.
Given product introductions such as these, it is no surprise that sailors
such as Mark Reynolds, the McKee Brothers, Magnus Liljedahl, and the
team of Paul Foerster and Bob Merrick will be training and competing
with lines from Yale Cordage.
Our company culture is steeped in a rich racing tradition,
says Hildebrand. Its nice to know that well be such
an integral part of the Olympic effort.
Yale Cordage, located in Biddeford, ME, has been engaged in high-technology
rope manufacturing for 50 years. In addition to an established reputation
in international racing circles, Yale is also well known for producing
specialized rope for pleasure marine, industrial, arborist, and research
applications.
