Contact: Dick Hildebrand There's A New 12-Strand in TownYale Cordage Releases Maverick, a new 12-Strand Climbing LineBiddeford, ME, August 7, 2000In a move certain to please any arborist who has spent long hours lugging a heavy 16-strand rope through trees, Yale Cordage today announced the release of Maverick, another in a long line of ropes designed specifically for this market. According to company Vice President Dick Hildebrand, Maverick "Is the first 12-strand climbing rope with a 16-strand attitude." Known for creating high performance ropes of all types, the Biddeford, ME-based company has always maintained a strong commitment to R&D, a key element behind Maverick. The secret to the ropes performance stems from three areas. First, by using finely twisted composite strands of olefin with polyester, they were able to create a 12-strand rope whose durability matched that of a 16-strand. It also utilizes a coreless construction, rather than the core and cover found on many climbing ropes. But most crucial was the fabrication process, which depends on tighter woven strands and a more tightly woven braid. These differences create several advantages. First, the coreless construction completely eliminates the possibility that the cover will "milk." Second, the tighter weave increases heat and snag resistance. But of greatest importance to arborists is something they should notice right awayless weight. "We spent a lot of time in the field talking to arborists who were working in trees and found that one of their biggest concerns was the weight of the 16-strand ropes they were using," reports Hildebrand. "We felt that if we could offer them a rope that was lighter with minimal sacrifice in performance, it could be very beneficial." Another advantage that Maverick offers is somewhat unexpected, given its level of performanceits more economical to produce, savings that Yale is passing on to customers. "Its really a win-win situation for everyone," says Hildebrand. Yale Cordage, located in Biddeford, ME, has been engaged in high-technology rope manufacturing for 50 years. In addition to an established reputation among arborists, Yale is also well known for producing specialized rope for many industrial, and research applications.
