Major anchor windlass manufacturers recommend eight-plaited rope for superior operation.A recent service bulletin by Lewmar, Inc., recommends eight-plaited nylon rope for solving common problems associated with the use of three-strand line in anchor windlasses. Saco, Maine, September 1, 2005: Yale Cordage has supplied Nylon Brait, an eight-plaited nylon rope, for several years to Maxwell Marine, a major manufacturer of marine anchor windlasses. Maxwell chose Brait because it eliminates many of the operational problems typically experienced with the use of three-strand line with power windlasses. Lewmar, one of the world's largest windlass manufacturers, now joins Maxwell in endorsing an eight-plaited nylon rope over traditional three-strand nylon for use in their powered anchor windlasses. Yale Nylon Brait has been proven to offer many benefits over three-strand line to boat owners and boat builders:
Brait is available in diameters from 3/8" to 1" in nylon or polyester from dealers, riggers and marine catalogs. The product is offered in bulk or as pre-made anchor rodes, spliced to chain or a thimble. Yale Cordage has published a 20-page, technical white paper entitled Anchoring Technology which details the many advantages of Brait. It is available free of charge upon request, or it may be downloaded from the Yale Cordage Web site: www.yalecordage.com. ###
